The United States has assumed the chair of FORGE

13 July 2026

The United States has assumed the chair of FORGE – the Forum on Resource Geostrategic Engagement (the February 2026 successor to the Minerals Security Partnership, or MSP) – following the conclusion of South Korea’s term in June.

The MSP:

  • developed a portfolio of 32 mining, processing and recycling projects;
  • coordinated participating governments and their public finance institutions;
  • established common responsible investment principles;
  • created the MSP Finance Network to support information exchange, investment and potential co-financing; and
  • established the MSP Forum for engagement with mineral-producing countries.

Yet a 2025 CSIS assessment noted that no single official public repository appeared to exist containing MSP projects, financing terms and execution.

Leadership transitions create the potential not merely to reform a system, but to recompose it.

FORGE may present an unprecedented opportunity to deliberately recompose allied critical mineral supply chains – reshaping the relationships, coordination and incentives that determine system coherence, resilience and strategic capability.
